Collection: Sweeney Dreamy
Be Me-
Discovering the dark world of musical theatre for the first time. Who knew that something so traditional soaked in the layers of Rodgers and Hammerstein could also be bathed in the blood of the innocent.
It's hard to find an appreciation for this kind of In-Your-Face bloody brutalism- but Sweeney Todd was a show that I always really loved and appreciated. From the first time when I saw it from a Theatre Festival (in Nebraska of all places)- this show has always held a very special and exciting place in my heart. I've even come around to finally appreciating the movie version (which was a whole can of worms in and of itself)
So now, I paint- and the way this piece came out really brought that idea home for me. The brutal and bloody- but also exciting and sardonic way the colours all blend seamlessly together into something vibrant and exciting.
The painting itself is equal parts fluid painting, drawing and restraint- but the end results are some that I think are my most exciting so far.
